Rangers-owned player left in limbo as transfer talks expected this week

Rangers fans will be desperate to see more signings arrive in the final month of the window but some players need to go too.

If Rangers are going to win the Premiership title this season, then the push for top spot hasn’t exactly started in style.

Saturday’s draw with Heart of Midlothian was fairly pedestrian stuff; plenty of the ball but no attacking threat.

Rangers could only muster a draw and the performance was more of the same from the end of last season.

This Rangers side doesn’t exactly look like rampaging to the title and fans are still waiting for a clearer brand of football under Philippe Clement.

Rangers may need to strike a number of deals, both in and out, before the transfer window slams shut later this month.

Jose Cifuentes transfer latest

One man who has almost become forgotten in Rangers circles is Jose Cifuentes.

There was plenty of excitement around Cifuentes upon his arrival at Ibrox last summer.

The Ecuador international had shown quality in Major League Soccer with LAFC and after a protracted transfer saga, he finally arrived in Glasgow.

Cifuentes only showed flashes of his quality before being sent out on loan to Brazilian side Cruzeiro in January.

That move hasn’t really worked out either though as Cifuentes has struggled for first team action in Brazil.

Reports indicate that Cifuentes is nearing a move to Aris in Greece – but there are some details to be thrashed out.

MetroSport in Greece now claim that Cifuentes to Aris is ‘on hold’ as ‘some details must be arranged’ between Rangers and Cruzeiro.

Cifuentes is currently set to stay in Brazil until December 2024, so Rangers need to negotiate to end that deal and send him to Aris.

The 25-year-old is thought to be training alone in Brazil, simply waiting for developments with Rangers set to hold talks with Cruzeiro this week.

All parties will hope that the deal will accelerate in the coming days with Cifuentes left in limbo.

Who else could leave Rangers?

Cifuentes may head from Brazil to Greece, but it doesn’t change the Rangers plans too much; he’s already out of the club so sending him elsewhere doesn’t bring a huge impact.

Others may find themselves at the centre of deals though with Rangers needing to get deals done.

Ianis Hagi has been linked with Fiorentina as the playmaker’s Ibrox future remains up in the air.

Another Rangers player could head to Italy with bids expected to arrive for Cyriel Dessers.

Teams in France and Saudi Arabia are also interested in Dessers with Rangers keen to recoup around £4.5million.

Scott Wright has Championship interest in England and Todd Cantwell has asked to leave the club.

Add in question marks surrounding James Tavernier’s future and we could see plenty of comings and goings at Ibrox this month.
