Alex Kpakpe is Rangers’ only signing of the January window to date and the ex-Chelsea star has broken his silence over the move online.

Taking to social media, the 18-year-old left-back thanked the Premier League giants for their support over the last five years and looked forward to the spell at Ibrox.

Rangers announced the official signing of Alex Kpakpe on a short-term six month deal alongside a spate of Academy renewals as the defender tries to prove his fitness in the first half of the year.

Despite being highly-rated, Kpakpe had been released from his contract at Chelsea due a spate of injury problems and Rangers will be hoping to worst of these are behind him.

“I’m finally happy to announce my signing at this huge club Rangers FC,” tweets Kpakpe.

“First and foremost I would like to say a massive thank you Chelsea FC for the past 5 years from going grass roots to an academy this club have given me a lot of memories I will never forget it’s been pleasure.”

Alex Kpakpe the latest youngster to join Rangers ranks

Rangers have used moves for English development players to strong effect in recent seasons, with Calvin Bassey (Leicester City) and Joe Aribo (Charlton) the obvious standouts and earning the club a pretty penny when moving onto Ajax and Southampton respectively.

The likes of Charlie McCann (Man Utd) and Zak Lovelace (Millwall) are also impressing in the B Team and have already broken through into the top side.

But whilst Rangers’ work on this front has been impressive in recent seasons it is ominous for supporters that Alex Kpakpe is the only official signing for the club this January.

Rangers have been linked to a range of names but with everything within Ibrox tight-lipped we’re now 12 days into the winter window and we’ve no idea how far down the line we are with anyone.

One major reported target has also been the subject of seven-figure interest from elsewhere.
