Rangers now face competition from Roma in the race to sign Boca Juniors talent Luca Langoni ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Gers wanted to add another winger before the transfer deadline in an attempt to add some dynamism out wide.

Abdallah Sima’s injury compounded the woes for Rangers, who already needed another natural wide man even before the Senegal star’s absence.

In the end, Rangers pounced to sign Colombian talent Oscar Cortes on loan from Lens with a view to a permanent move.

Cortes looks to be an exciting prospect and has made a promising start to life at Ibrox, but Rangers do have other wingers on the radar…

Rangers face Roma battle for Luca Langoni

Reports in January suggested that Rangers had made an approach to sign Boca Juniors talent Luca Langoni.

It was suggested that Fulham, Nice and Sevilla were all interested in signing Langoni too, but the January window ended without a deal.

Langoni is back in the news now though as Boca Noticias claim that Roma have now joined the race.

It’s claims that Boca will be open to a sale if Roma formalise their interest, believing that he can bring in valuable funds.

A battle with Roma seems a little daunting but Rangers may be able to offer a more consistent route to first-team action if Langoni remains a key target for the summer.

Langoni predominantly plays as a right winger and Rangers will still have one eye on wide men given that Sima is only on loan.

The 22-year-old has bagged 10 goals in 50 games for Boca and has shown real talent.

Hailed as ‘phenomenal’ and compared to Manchester City ace Julian Alvarez, Langoni looks to have a big future ahead of him.

Rangers may still hope to bring him to Ibrox and form a South American double-act with Cortes on the flanks, but Roma’s interest now presents a real hurdle.
