Rangers won’t be signing Gent striker Hugo Cuypers today as he prepares to finalise a move to Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire.

Rangers added one attacker early in the window as Fabio Silva arrived on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Yet with Sam Lammers already loaned out to Utrecht and both Danilo and Kemar Roofe injured, fans may hope to see another attacker arrive.

Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is the name many are focusing on and one player on the Rangers radar is now heading to the United States…

Reports from Belgium earlier this week indicated that Rangers really appreciate Gent striker Hugo Cuypers.

However, a move to Ibrox was considered unlikely as he was being lined up for a move elsewhere.

The mystery destination is now known as Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri claims that Cuypers is heading to Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire.

It’s stated that Cuypers has accepted the offer from Chicago Fire and will sign a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The transfer fee is a hefty one; Tavolieri claims that the price is around €12million (£10million) including bonuses.

Rangers were never likely to spend that kind of money on one player so Cuypers is now heading elsewhere, no doubt looking to continue his outstanding goalscoring record.

Cuypers has smashed 51 goals in 90 games for Gent whilst also adding 15 assists.

The 26-year-old will have been difficult for Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen – the two Belgians with huge power at Rangers – to ignore in recent times.

This would have been a huge signing for Rangers but it just wasn’t meant to be with Cuypers seemingly out of reach from a budget perspective.

Cuypers may now become a star in MLS too and Rangers will surely be keeping tabs on him just in case there is a chance for a deal down the line.
