It would appear that Rangers are very much looking at adding another striker with Philippe Clement now linked with Gent’s Hugo Cuypers.

The Belgian has been capped at youth level for his country and has a respectable goal every two games for his club this season, the sort of depth that the Gers boss could do with in his squad.

The report is one that has seen a name emerge and be clarified immediately with respected transfer journalist Sacha Tovolieri explaining Rangers interest in Hugo Cuypers on X.

Rangers are big fans of Hugo Cuypers

Having broken Rangers move for Nicolas Raskin, Tovolieri is well known amongst most fans who follow transfer rumours on social media.

This time, the news can be taken one of two ways.

Apparently, Clement and Nils Koppen are big fans of the 6ft tall striker, however, they won’t be making a move just now.

Still under contract with Gent until 2026, the most likely explanation is that the fee being demanded is not one that we would want to pay when we still have Cyriel Dessers and Danilo.

Maybe if Sam Lammers had left on a permanent deal but he will be returning in the summer.

In terms of profile, Cuypers is very similar to Dessers in that he isn’t the quickest but is a textbook, all-round, number nine.

He can also be just as streaky when it comes to finding the net.

Another player who he is similar to is Lawrence Shankland.

Coincidence? Maybe.

Or maybe not.

What this report does do though is suggest that Oscar Cortes isn’t going to be the last forward that Clement brings in during this transfer window.

Rangers have clearly been impressed with Hugo Cuypers but there are more factors at play when deciding who to sign.

As with the players that have arrived, or are said to be on their way, the 26-year old’s name came out of nowhere.

Whose name is going to be next?
