Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas looks set to leave Ibrox for nothing this summer as his contract runs down.

22-year-old Barjonas is a talented player who has made nine first-team appearances for the Gers.

The last of those outings came way back in December 2017, though, and while he made the bench for a number of Premiership and Europa League fixtures over the first half of this season, he’s been unable to break into the side under Steven Gerrard.

Barjonas has been with the Gers for a long time, having come up through the age groups before making his first-team debut as a teenager under Pedro Caixinha.

He’s had loan spells at Raith Rovers, Bury, Partick Thistle and most recently, Ayr United, with his relatively short stint at Somerset Park only ending a little over a week ago.

He wasn’t able to establish himself with the Honest Men, making just six appearances and only playing the full 90 minutes once.

A contract extension had looked unlikely prior to his loan departure and given that no update has followed his return to Ibrox, it looks as though he will soon be released.

Barjonas is a technically sound young player with an eye for goal, but he hasn’t been able to compete with the array of senior international midfielders on the books at Rangers and perhaps leaving the club at this stage will benefit his career in the long run.

In other news, a high-quality Rangers player has reportedly made a decision on his future.
