Liam Kelly’s contract at Rangers runs out at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 30-year-old was at Ibrox for three years between 2015 and 2018, and joined the club again in 2024.

Now, he has a few months left to go on his current deal, which expires at the end of June.

Rangers open talks with Liam Kelly over new deal

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have opened talks with Kelly over a new contract at the club.

Despite the 30-year-old being the second choice, he is still rated highly by the Light Blues hierarchy.

Kelly has done well in his second stint at the club and proven to be an able deputy for Jack Butland.

Butland still has another year left on his deal and is expected to be at the club at least until next season.

Rangers are eyeing Pierce Charles, who is set to leave Sheffield Wednesday, and his arrival would see Kelly fall further in the pecking order.

Danny Rohl has worked with the Northern Irish goalkeeper during their Sheffield Wednesday days, and is eyeing a reunion at Ibrox with him.

It remains to be seen if he can succeed in convincing him to move to Glasgow this summer.

Should Kelly be given a new deal at Ibrox?

Handing Kelly a new contract may not make perfect sense for the Ibrox outfit.

If they are to sign Charles, who would be either the first or second choice, the Scottish stopper then becomes redundant.

Having him as a third choice makes very little sense, and the Gers should instead get him off the payroll.

If Butland agrees to stay on knowing that Charles would be competing for a first-team spot, it makes sense to have them as the two keepers.

Kelly may have contributed to the senior side in the past, but Rohl and co will be looking towards the future rather than the past.
