Rangers are over a week into the January transfer window and are yet to announce any new additions to the club’s squad.
Rangers fans are getting a tad nervous with as many as eight Ibrox first-team stars set to miss the Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee this week.
The centre of defence is an area of particular concern with the latest reports suggesting Rangers are ‘monitoring’ Norwich City stalwart Grant Hanley.
But the latest news in Scotland suggests Rangers have finally ‘made contact’ over what would be the first Ibrox signing of the January transfer window.
Rangers ‘make contact’ over Nikola Katic return
Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson has claimed that Rangers have ‘made contact’ over a sensational return for Nikola Katic.
The Bosnian international centre-back, 28, left Rangers for FC Zurich back in 2022 and has spent the last two and a half years in Switzerland.
The last few days have been dominated by reports surrounding Rangers and Nikola Katic, with sources close to the defender claiming the centre-back would relish a return to Ibrox.
“We’ve had nothing concrete yet but we’ve seen some stories in the media and of course, Niko would like it a lot if he could return to Rangers,” claimed the source.
“We are currently in negotiations with some clubs, one also from England. But if Rangers knock on the door, that would be the priority for Nikola.
“He still has 18 months remaining on his contract in Zurich. But If it is meant for him to return to Rangers, he will be there.”
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live on 7th December, Jackson claims the situation has gone to the next level with Rangers now ‘making contact’ over Katic.
“I believe there has been contact made, there have been some sort of discussions had behind the scenes,” said Jackson said.
“Rangers have been made aware that this deal is there to be done. I think it very much looks like Nikola Katic will be on the move, whether that be to Ibrox or to England or something over the course of the next few weeks”.

Craig Moore: Nikola Katic fits Rangers profile
The news comes after ex-Ibrox captain Craig Moore had tipped Rangers to make a return for Nikola Katic this January.
Rangers are in dire need of a new centre-back with the club in the midst of an injury crisis and the Croatian is considered a useful option by plenty.
Not least by Australian legend Craig Moore, who reckons Rangers could do much worse than return for the former Ibrox centre-back.
“Interesting one, central defender who I think Rangers need and a player that has crossed our desks in the last days is Katic,” said Moore.
“A former Rangers player. Obviously was very, very solid at the club and unfortunately picked up an ACL injury and then ended up in Croatia and all that sort of stuff to get his fitness.
“How Rangers supporters would feel towards a player like Katic, I think it is important that whatever player – if Rangers do look to bring in a central defender – needs to hit the ground running.
“There is no time transition of three or four months. It is now. You’ve got to deliver now. He would be a player that would certainly fit that profile.”
