Rangers only signed two players in January but were linked with countless others, one of them being Josh Onomah who was in the process of being released by Fulham.
The former Spurs academy graduate has plenty of potential but, at 26-years old, is beginning to look like a player who might not fulfill their promise.
With Kieran Dowell signed, Rangers don’t have room for another “fixer-upper” in midfield and news of another contract offer from Preston indicates that Michael Beale isn’t interested.
Rangers look to have moved on from Josh Onomah
The Gers gaffer has already shown that he has a list of players who he has identified in the past as ones to keep an eye on.
Dowell is one, Dujon Sterling and now Sam Lammers.
Beale will be fully aware of what Rangers would get with Josh Onomah but, even on a free, he doesn’t seem to be interested despite the reported interest in the last window.
In January, and every month since, Rangers could have offered a contract without having to pay a fee for the midfield playmaker since he only joined Preston on a short-term deal but have opted against it.
Onomah would be worth the punt but there are now too many reasons why he isn’t needed.
Todd Cantwell is one, Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Alex Lowry another, and that’s before seeing what Kieran Dowell will bring to Rangers midfield.
There are plenty of flexible creators in Michael Beale’s squad now and there simply isn’t space for any more, even if there were departures.
Rangers need players who are driven and hungry to prove themselves and who can handle the pressure of playing for a big club.
There have been too many who have left Rangers having been content with one good game every five games.
As good a player as Josh Onomah is and how much we needed him in January, Rangers have already moved to the next level and are destined for bigger and better things.
