Rangers-linked Brazilian midfielder Evander is “expected” to join Galatasaray after the Turkish giants struck a deal with Danish outfit FC Midtjylland.
That’s according to Dirilis Potasi journalist Kaya Temel, who claims that a deal has been struck between both parties with the 24-year-old now set to complete the move.
This comes after protracted links between Evander and Galatasaray with Rangers and Midtjylland’s Danish rivals FC Copenhagen the other clubs named as potential suitors [Gustavo Hofman].
Translated, the tweet reads:
“Galatasaray negotiated with Midtjylland for the last time for Evander. Agreed on everything with the player and his manager.
“The Brazilian football player conveyed his desire to go to Galatasaray once again to his club. A deal is expected.”
Rangers fans dealt Evander Galatasaray blow
This will come as a big blow to many Rangers fans who had signposted Evander as their preferred post-Champions League qualification signing in this window.
But the bad news for expectant Gers fans might not end there as Rangers Review journalist Derek Clark claims the club are not expecting a busy deadline day.
Reiterating that this could all change on the day, Clark claims sources close to the club have told him that Rangers are not expecting any major business as things stand.
Rangers fans will hope this is the Ibrox side keeping their cards close to their chest with the feeling amongst the support that the Gers are one or two quality signings away from their full complement.
Having recouped millions from the Europa League run, the high-profile sales of Patterson, Aribo and Bassey, and the Champions League qualification, Rangers fans want to see some more investment in the playing squad.
The Rangers board are also gambling should the club fail to add quality with the squad full of injury prone stars who have proven unreliable over the course of the last 12 or so months.
If this backfires and Rangers once again surrender the league title then there will be vocal hell to pay with a feeling that sleeping on transfers cost the club last season in the title race.
Here’s what manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst had to say on transfers when asked about them after Rangers’ 3-1 League Cup win over Queen of the South [Rangers]:
“I’m relaxed [about adding to the squad]. There is still a couple of days. You never know what is happening in those days and you have to be prepared.
“At the moment, I think this is the squad we are going to have. As I mentioned before, we created this squad to be competitive and reach the Champions League as well, which they did. I’m quite relaxed.”
So whilst it looks like Evander is going to Galatasaray, Rangers may well not have been planning anything major on deadline day anyway; but the club has pulled this kind of thing before.
Meanwhile, a leading Rangers club insider has dropped a major hint regarding the future fee attached to a loanee taking Ibrox by storm.
