Rangers kid Josh McPake set to replace Ibrox-linked talent at Morecambe

Rangers talent Josh McPake is reportedly on the verge of joining League One Morecambe just days after he signed a new contract at Ibrox.

Once linked to the likes of Liverpool and AS Roma by the Daily Record, McPake was once the Rangers Academy Player of the Year with a bright future ahead of him.

But after breaking into the first team at Rangers in 19/20 McPake struggled at loan spells with Dundee and Greenock Morton.

However, after a successful spell with League Two Harrogate Town last season, the talented 19-year-old is preparing for a return down south.

Reports emerged regarding Morecambe interest in the Rangers player yesterday with Football Insider claiming that the player was down south having a medical at the club.

This was after the Press Association had revealed that McPake has signed a two-year extension to his contract at Ibrox.

Interestingly, the attacker will be joining up with ex-Motherwell boss Steven Robinson at the Shrimps and appears to have been signed in replacement of a high-profile Rangers-linked talent.

Carlos Mendes Gomes, 22, has just moved to Luton Town after firing Morecambe to promotion with 15 league strikes from the wing last season.

Rangers were extensively linked to Gomes but the player opted to remain down south with the Championship the next step step-up for the Senegal-born forward.

Gers supporters will keep a close eye on McPake’s development south of the border and will be hoping the player can return to Ibrox and leave an impression on the squad.

Speaking of talent young Rangers attackers going out on loan, a pair of Scottish clubs are reportedly interested in signing one of the club’s most highly-rated young stars.
