'Fabulous' Rangers starlet a loan target for Partick Thistle and Dunfermline - report

Partick Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic are competing to sign Rangers starlet Kai Kennedy on loan for the 2021/22 season, according to the Daily Record.

Kennedy spent the first half of last season at Inverness Caley Thistle before returning to Ibrox to sign a new contract ahead of a stint at Raith Rovers.

The highly-rated winger made his first-team debut back in January 2020 and has received plenty of praise from managers so far in his career.

Steven Gerrard has described him as a ‘fabulous little player’ [Daily Record], while former Inverness boss John Robertson labelled him a ‘crowd pleaser’ who ‘beats people for fun’ [Glasgow Live].

As a result, some Gers fans want to see him given opportunities at first-team level at Ibrox.

However, given that he only has 30 senior career appearances under his belt and that Ryan Kent is a shoo-in on the left side, it makes more sense for him to head out elsewhere for now.

The Daily Record reports that a Championship move is likely, with the Jags and the Pars battling it out to land him.

This news comes a month or so after Thistle boss Ian McCall talked transfers with Gers assistant Gary McAllister in his garden, hinting that he could look to bring in one or two high-quality prospects from Auchenhowie this summer, having had Kieran Wright, Rhys Breen and Adam Devine at Firhill for varying lengths of time last season.

The Gers also have previous in terms of sending young players to Dunfermline, though, with Lewis Mayo spending 2020/21 at East End Park.

Rangers will likely base their decision on a combination of where they feel Kennedy will play the most and which club’s playing style is most suitable for the diminutive 19-year-old.

Kennedy isn’t going to be the only player heading out on loan over the coming weeks, with two other promising speedsters reportedly already agreeing temporary switches of their own.
