Michael Beale confirms Rangers talent Leon King will be handed a new Ibrox contract, with talk of a mystery recipient setting tongues wagging about Ryan Jack.

News broke this week regarding a new deal for 18-year-old centre-back King, who has featured regularly this season amid a defensive injury crisis at Ibrox.

Playing in all six of the club’s Champions League matches, the defender was said to be attracting interest from across the Premier League.

The new deal will protect Rangers’ interests with the talented defender who has been widely regarded as one of Scotland’s brightest sparks for a generation.

But the conversation has quickly moved on to who else is set to agree a new deal at Rangers as Michael Beale claims a senior star is set to sign on the dotted line.

“Yeah there’s positive signs with that [King deal], I think you’ll hear something in the next couple of days and one other player signing new deals, which is really important for the club,” said Beale [Rangers].

”We’ve got some really important players under 25 that are important for the future. Leon is one of those. He’s got potential to kick on and be a really important player for Rangers and Scotland. The other is one of the senior players.”

Rangers contract hint could point to Ryan Jack deal

Whilst Leon King signing on for Rangers is good news, the Michael Beale hint has plenty musing over who Rangers might be about to tie down on a longer deal.

Beale later confirmed it would not be Ryan Kent, and with the future of Alfredo Morelos still up in the air, it points to two players in particular.

Filip Helander and Ryan Jack are also out of contract come the end of the season and given the big Swede’s fitness issues everything appears to point to the Scotland international.

There are of course more veteran players who are out of contract, with the likes of Steven Davis, Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield coming to the end of their deals.

But Rangers have previously shown an inclination to discuss these sorts of deals come the end of the season so we suspect it won’t be any of these players.

That means Ryan Jack could be the man to commit terms on a new contract at Ibrox and let’s hope the 30-year-old can put his extensive injury problems behind him in the coming seasons.

Meanwhile, Rangers have been handed a reported £7.5m double post-World Cup boost.
