Rangers striker Youssef Chermiti is subject to growing transfer interest this summer following his debut season at Ibrox.

The Portuguese striker scored 15 goals in all competitions for the Light Blues last season, including strikes in big matches against Hearts and Celtic.

Rangers are looking to make a significant profit if they are compelled to sell him, but as things stand, are keen on retaining his services.

Steven Clifford believes £30m fee for Youssef Chermiti is justified

Steven Clifford has reacted to Andrew Cavenagh’s statement from months ago, where he stated that Chermiti is valued at £30m.

At the time, few believed it, but given how the striker improved and became a key player, the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast host tends to agree with the Rangers Chairman.

In his view, the striker has all the attributes needed to be a top player and was viewed as a long-term investment even though he did not score any goals at his previous club, Everton.

Clifford wrote in the Rangers Review: “I was fortunate enough to be in his company at a supporters’ meeting where I put that exact question to him: why spend so much on a player who wasn’t a first-team starter? Cavanagh was steadfast in his response. Rangers, he said, would get £30m for Chermiti. He has all the attributes to become a top player, and crucially, he had not been signed for immediate impact.

“Chermiti has since gone from strength to strength. A hat-trick against Hearts, two more against Celtic and another treble post-split have completely shifted the narrative. His valuation has soared, and interest from clubs such as Galatasaray and Lyon is no longer something to dismiss lightly. That £30m claim no longer sounds outlandish.

“With his attributes, Chermiti should be targeting 25 goals or more this season, while developing the reliability in front of goal that defines top-level strikers. The experience and competition around him can only help raise those standards.

“Cavanagh’s £30m valuation is no longer a bold claim; it is a realistic benchmark.”

What is the latest on Chermiti leaving Rangers?

Rangers News understands that Lyon are not the only club keen on signing Chermiti this summer, as there is interest from other European sides as well.

The Ligue 1 club are yet to meet the Light Blues’ valuation of the player, with them not keen on doing a deal for anything less than £25m.

Thus far, the club have not received a single bid that is above £20m and Chermiti has shown no inclination towards forcing an Ibrox exit.
