Rangers and their summer rebuild are poised to pick up pace as Brazilian giants Botafogo open formal negotiations to sign out-of-favour striker Danilo.
The 27-year-old striker’s time in Glasgow is rapidly drawing to a close.
Having struggled to secure a sustained run of first-team football under the weight of recurring injury concerns, Danilo’s omission from Rangers’ pre-season training camp in Spain made his status crystal clear.
Now, a return to his native Brazil is firmly on the table, though Botafogo are not the only clubs looking to secure his signature.

Botafogo make move for Danilo
According to Sky Sports, Botafogo have initiated direct discussions with the Ibrox hierarchy over a deal for the forward.
They are making a transfer bid to take the former Santos man back home, but it is unclear if they are pursuing a loan or a permanent deal.
The Brazilian outfit represent an attractive pathway back home for Danilo, who has experienced a highly disruptive, stop-start cycle in Scotland since his £6million transfer from Feyenoord in 2023.

Despite his injury setbacks, the forward has managed a respectable contribution of 16 goals in 76 matches in light blue.
European suitors keep close tabs as Rangers exit looms
While a move back to Brazil is progressing, Danilo’s camp has no shortage of fallback options on the continent.
As per The Sun, clubs in the Netherlands and Greece are also closely tracking the 27-year-old’s situation.

Rangers appear to be closing in on his signing!
Having spent the second half of last season on loan with Eredivisie outfit NEC Nijmegen, the forward still boasts a strong reputation in Dutch football, which could open the door for a late rival offer to keep him in Europe.
With two years remaining on his current Rangers contract, the club are eager to facilitate a clean break to free up significant room on their wage bill.
Having stayed behind in Scotland specifically to finalise a transfer, a definitive departure for the forward is expected to materialise shortly.
