Rangers have been linked with a January loan move for Brighton striker Deniz Undav – but only because Michael Beale reportedly targeted the striker at QPR.

The Gers are set for an interesting January window after the appointment of ex-Ibrox assistant Michael Beale and expectations are rising amid a series of high profile links.

But whilst some are more concrete than others, the links to Deniz Undav don’t appear to stem from anywhere other than QPR’s apparent interest in the striker in the summer window.

Premier League dark horses Brighton paid a reported £6m to sign the striker from familiar Rangers Euro foes Union Saint Gilloise in January and the player was immediately loaned back to the Belgian club.

The Brighton move wasn’t without good reason either; German striker Deniz Undav netted 27 times in Belgium last season and scored 45 goals in 70 games in total for USG.

Despite Undav’s goalscoring prowess the attacker was linked with the likes of QPR in the summer and since the Seagulls opted to keep him around chances have been at premium.

The striker’s eight Premier League appearances have returned little over 90 minutes of action with the striker’s only goal coming in a 3-0 win away to Forest Green – to date the Undav’s only start with the club.

It’s led to the suggestion that Brighton will loan Deniz Undav out this January but nowhere has there been an official link to Rangers per se.

The Daily Record are the ones who have mentioned the striker alongside the Ibrox giants but only because Michael Beale was said to be interested in signing Deniz Undav in the summer.

The suggestion is that the Rs could revive their summer interest, with Championship rivals Burnley linked and Galatasaray also mentioned via reports in Turkey.

It means that the suggestion of Rangers interest in Deniz Undav at least appears only speculative but let’s see how the situations of Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Antonio Colak progress heading into the window.

Meanwhile, one Rangers star whose been linked to the Premier League is reportedly set to sign a new deal.
