Rangers hunt £10m-rated winger who Todd Cantwell once labelled Championship side’s ‘starboy’

Rangers are yet to appoint a new manager but there is already plenty of speculation surrounding potential new additions.

Rangers have appointed Kevin Thelwell as the club’s new sporting director but the Everton chief will not move into the role for another month.

In the meantime Rangers have been linked to several players with one eye on a potentially huge summer of investment under new US ownership.

Now, Rangers have been linked to one of the English Championship’s top performers, and might pull on one former star to help nudge him to Ibrox.

Rangers monitoring Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan

According to the Herald, Rangers are considering a cut-price pre-contract swoop for Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan.

The 23-year-old has netted seven goals and laid on six assists at Ewood Park this season but his contract is set to expire come the end of the campaign.

Rangers have taken advantage of cross-border compensation rules in the past to sign several high-profile English talents including Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo.

Rangers could avoid paying the £5m-£10m training development fee that English clubs would have to pay to secure Dolan’s services.

The situation bears a striking resemblance to that of Rangers-linked Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku.

There is a catch however; Rangers are not the only side interested with Old Firm rivals Celtic also hoping to tempt Dolan north.

Can Rangers exploit Todd Cantwell’s relationship with Tyrhys Dolan?

Rangers might look to former Ibrox midfielder Todd Cantwell when it comes to convincing Blackburn Rovers star Tyrhys Dolan over a move to Ibrox.

Cantwell left Rangers for Blackburn in the summer and is a key player for the Ewood Park side.

The 27-year-old also appears to have a close relationship with Dolan, taking to Instagram to brand the winger the Rovers’ ’starboy’ earlier in the season.

In a post celebrating the winger, Cantwell wrote: “Just me and my boy, you are a credit to yourself and your family Ty. Been a pleasure starboy 💫.”

Dolan responded: “My brother! Locked in always 🔗🫶🏾💙.”

If the choice comes down to Ibrox or Celtic Park, we’re sure Todd will be willing to give Tyrhys a nudge in the right direction!
