Rangers remain locked in the hunt for a new manager with Real Madrid assistant coach Davide Ancelotti the new frontrunner.
Reports in Italy and Spain have suggested that Rangers are tailing Davide with the 35-year-old set to leave Real Madrid alongside legendary father-turned-manager Carlo Ancelotti this summer.
Back in Scotland however, journalists have poured cold water on suggestions a Rangers move for the Italian is close, with Ancelotti one of a number of managers being considered at Ibrox.
But should Rangers look to move for Davide Ancelotti to replace Philippe Clement as the next Rangers manager, they’ve just been handed a sizeable boost.

Davide Ancelotti suitors drop out of manager race
Rangers reportedly faced a sizeable challenge from Serie A club Como in the hunt for Davide Ancelotti’s signature.
With Carlo Ancelotti agreeing a deal with Brazil come the end of the season, Davide will join up with his father in South America until mid-June before taking his first foray into management.
Xabi Alonso is now expected to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, with Como manager Cesc Fabregas strongly linked with Alonso’s job at Bayer Leverkusen.
Reports had suggested that Como were then set to target Davide Ancelotti as Fabregas’s replacement but such suggestions have now been dismissed by Fabrizio Romano.
The leading Italian journalist is claiming that Fabregas is committed to the project at Como and will not leave Italy for another club this summer.
’No frontrunner’ in Rangers manager pursuit
Whilst the news around Cesc Fabregas hands Rangers a boost in the pursuit of Davide Ancelotti, the Ibrox side are certainly keeping their options open.
It’s being widely reported that Rangers have not trained their sights on any single manager and are still working hard to identify the ideal candidate.
Sky Sports have listed a number of potential candidates, with Danny Rohl, Gary O’Neil, Russell Martin, Rob Edwards and Steven Gerrard all mentioned.
This fresh report once again reiterates the suggestion that there is ‘no frontrunner’ for the Rangers manager’s gig with ‘no appointment imminent’.
