The transfer window hadn’t even opened when Philippe Clement made his first move for Rangers and now, with Steven Alzate linked, it looks like being a busy start to the month.
The Brighton midfield is said to have been offered to the Gers boss with the 25-year old currently out on loan at Standard Liege, the club Nicolas Raskin moved to Ibrox from.
As Philippe Clement looks to strengthen his Rangers squad, a previous assessment of Steven Alzate could prove useful, as could his countryman.

Rangers have Nicolas Raskin reference for Steven Alzate
Raskin played alongside Alzate for Standard before heading to Glasgow last January, ironically, it was this move that allowed the Colombian international to prove what he was really capable of.
Brighton’s loan manager, Gordon Greer, gave his verdict the the club’s media team after seeing the 25-year old play a more prominent role for the Juniper Pro League outfit:
“He [Alzate] has shone in the last few months. They sold Nicolas Raskin to Rangers which allowed Steven to move back into the holding midfield role which is a position we’re more familiar with seeing him play.
“He’s been a consistent starter throughout the season which is exactly what we had hoped for when he made the move.”
Philippe Clement needs exactly this type of player for Rangers.
A natural defensive midfielder who can spray passes around.

John Lundstram has been performing well of late but this isn’t his natural position.
Alzate has yet to have his one-year option taken up by Brighton which means he is technically allowed to discuss a pre-contract agreement with Rangers, with a similar profile to Alexis Mac Allister, there is a lot to like.
That he has been offered to Clement suggests that the Premier League side want to make a bit of profit whilst they can.
Sometimes, there is no better scouting than a manager knowing a player or someone in the squad having worked with them before.
What looks good on paper doesn’t always tell the full story in terms of personality, mentality and whether or not a player would be a good fit.
What we do know is that Rangers have the chance to sign an international football in Steven Alzate, one with Premier League experience and who has excelled in a league similar to ours.
Could Rangers be about to seal signing number two of the transfer window?
