Rangers have “held talks” over signing Brazilian attacker Anthony

Rangers have been linked with a move for 20-year-old Brazilian attacker Anthony, who currently plies his trade with Portuguese club FC Arouca.

Antony Alves Santos joined the Primeira Liga side in the summer after coming through at Brazillian club Joinville and spending a brief period on loan at Corinthians.

The story appears to have started in Portuguese newspaper A Bola, who claim that both Rangers and Swiss outfit FC Basel are tailing the player.

They claim that whilst Anthony is not a bonafide starter in the Arouca side, his offensive performances as of late have began to pique the interest of foreign clubs.

Anthony’s time at Arouca is his first experience in European football and it’s being claimed Rangers are colleting notes on his evolution.

However, the claims do not stop there with apparent transfer journalist Ekrem Konur claiming Rangers have “held talks” regarding a potential move for Anthony.

Styling himself very much as the Turkish Fabrizio Romano, we’re not sure how concrete these claims are but they come after the report appeared in A Bola.

In 17 appearances in Portugal this season, Rangers-linked Anthony has netted two goals.

Anthony of Arouca latest player to be linked to Rangers

Rangers are expected to have a busy summer in terms of player arrivals and departures as Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks to make his mark on the squad.

So far the Dutch coach has had one particularly underwhelming transfer window and after a heroic week from the club’s players has bought himself some time with supporters to improve the team.

This is after 12-point swing since the New Year has seen the club likely surrender the Scottish Premiership title to Celtic.

Rangers also have several players entering the final year of their contracts at the club and some are likely to be moved on.

Perhaps the signing of players like Anthony point to a new direction at Rangers and we’ll keep close tabs on any developments in this story.

Meanwhile, one key Rangers star is being extensively linked with a move to the Premier League.
