Premier League club “stepping up” interest in key Rangers star

Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo is reportedly a transfer target for Premier League Crystal Palace as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract.

The Nigerian international has had an inconsistent campaign at times but was the stand-out player for the club in the first half of the season.

A technically impressive player, the ex-Charlton man’s long-range effort against St Mirren recently sums up exactly what Joe Aribo can bring to the team.

However, if Rangers cannot convince Joe Aribo to extend his contract in the summer then it is likely the player will be shipped out to avoid losing him for nothing a year later.

Crystal Palace have been consistently mentioned as potential suitors for the Super Eagles star and now Football Insider have once again linked the Premier League side to the player.

In fact, the report claims that Palace are “stepping up” their interest with the 25-year-old interesting multiple clubs in the English top flight.

The report also claims that Crystal Palace sent scouts to watch Joe Aribo play in the 3-1 Rangers win over Braga, where the midfielder assisted two goals.

Joe Aribo being tracked by Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace certainly represent an interesting option for Joe Aribo with Rangers in an increasingly difficult situation regarding the midfielder.

The club have time and again repeated the need to move into a player trading model which ultimately means the club’s best players will be sold for high profits.

But to date only Nathan Patterson – who joined Everton in a £16m deal in January – has been sold on for anything substantial.

Joe Aribo may also be buoyed by the number of young English players in the Crystal Palace team and Patrick Viera’s side appears to suit the Rangers star.

The World Cup-winning former French midfielder has Palace playing on the front foot and their style certainly matches up with Aribo.

As things stand, there has been nothing formal surrounding Joe and the Selhurst Park club but the midfielder isn’t the only player entering the final year of his deal.

Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Filip Helander are all important first team players whose contracts expire in the summer of 2023.

Meanwhile, one young Rangers star took aim at Celtic as another club in the Premier League is linked to his services.
