Rangers have seen in a short period of time what the difference adding extra quality can do for Philippe Clement’s chances of achieving success.

Robin Propper – aside from a moment of bad luck – looked solid and unflustered whilst Vaclav Cerny has been an immediate upgrade on any of the other wingers at the club.

The manager needs this sort of ability throughout the team, but there are still gaps in the squad.

One player who would be a huge coup is Man Utd’s Hannibal with Rangers said to be at in “advanced talks” with the 21-year old Tunisia international.

Hannibal hands in transfer request as Rangers position clarified

There has been an update on the speculation with the player handing in a transfer request according to Buzz News Tunisia after Fabrizio Romano clarified the Light Blues’ position:

“Yes, there was an interest (from Rangers). It’s true, but Man United are only interested in permanent transfer. So, (that means) selling the player on a permanent transfer, not a new loan.

“And at the moment, for Rangers, that could be quite difficult.

“So, the conversation is true, the interest is true. But the formula of the deal is going to be crucial to understand the future of Hannibal.”

There has been a one in, one out policy for almost the who summer and it is clear that the speculation concerning Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi could have a direct effect on any big money move for Hannibal.

Jose Cifuentes could go for as much as £4.2m if reports are correct, although this figure is now disputed, but it is still money and wages that could be put towards the powerhouse midfielder.

Clement can’t do it on his own and needs quality signings

Clement spoke after the win over Motherwell about the quality that Cerny brings and how signing players like him remains a priority.

The Gers boss can work with the players at his disposal all he wants, however, individuals like Hannibal are an instant upgrade.

Sometimes, this comes at a cost.

Rangers haven’t budgeted for the Champions League, but qualifying would make a big difference in terms of what sort of shopping list the manager would have.

Man Utd, due to Hannibal only having a year left on his current contract, understandably don’t want to send their player out on loan again.

If there was the sort of agreement that Nils Koppen negotiated for Mohamed Diomande or Oscar Cortes then it might be a different story.

Rangers spine improved with the arrival of Propper, adding Hannibal would make it even more solid, with the player now pushing for a move, Man Utd might be slightly easier to negotiate with.
