The Scotland international is struggling for minutes at Everton and has been on the fringes at the Merseyside outfit since leaving the Light Blues back in 2022.

He was touted to be Tavernier’s long-term replacement back then, but it could still happen as he would be open to returning to Ibrox.

Rangers have Patterson on their shortlist this summer, so work could begin to bring him back to the club.

Who do you see replacing him?

The pros and cons of a return for Patterson

Bringing Patterson back will certainly come with its pros and cons, which the club will need to be wary of.

In the pros column, having an academy prospect back at the club and one who could arguably strengthen the first team, is something that would be welcomed by the fans.

Patterson knows the club inside out, loves the Light Blues, and understands the challenges that come with being a regular.

He is accustomed to the Scottish Premiership, is impressive going forward, and would be a good fit for Danny Rohl’s system.

The cons are that his fitness record has not been the best since leaving Rangers, and there still remain doubts over his defensive ability.

Not playing regularly would likely mean that he has not developed much as a player, which may see the Gers looking at other options.

They could explore a loan deal with an option to buy, as that could benefit all parties without any immediate financial outlay.
