Rangers might’ve missed out in their reported pursuit of Chelsea talent Billy Gilmour but as the player signed for Norwich the 20-year-old’s mum caught the eye of bluenoses.

Carrie Gilmour wasted no time in showing her allegiances when asked to hold a yellow and green Norwich City scarf and refusing to hold the green part.

Gilmour signed a season-long loan deal with the Carrow Road club and was being unveiled alongside his family as part of the signing.

It’s an exciting move for Billy, 20, and presents him the chance to cement himself as a Premier League player with the promise of more game time at the Canaries.

Brought forward to hold the scarf for a photo Gilmour’s mum says “I’ll hold the yellow bit” before the player’s dad replies “she doesn’t like that colour (green), she’s getting an away strip she says!”.

This caught the eye of Rangers fans on Twitter who awarded Mrs Gilmour extra “staunch points” for recoiling at the colour of our rivals:

Green aside, Rangers star Gilmour was delighted to sign for Norwich in what promises to be a big opportunity for the midfielder.

“I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead. I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League,” said Gilmour [NCFC].

“I spoke to the head coach [Daniel Farke] here. He called me and we had a nice talk about how he wants to play and how he sees me fitting in.

“Everything he said was what I want to do on the pitch, get the ball down and play nice football. He spoke really highly of his team and I wanted to come join here and help.

“There are very exciting times ahead, coming in for pre-season and seeing all the lads. Let’s get to it.”

The player was officially unveiled by Norwich City this week after weeks of links to the likes of Rangers, with the Ibrox club’s domestic status reportedly going against them.
