Rangers won’t be signing midfielder Billy Gilmour as the midfielder officially joins Premier League new boys Norwich City on loan.
The Chelsea wonderkid, 20, was reportedly a target of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard this summer [Daily Record] but it will be Carrow Road and not Ibrox Gilmour turns out at next season.
Believed to have been Chelsea’s preferred destination for the player, Norwich City manager Daniel Farke is a former Dortmund colleague of Stamford Bridge boss Thomas Tuchel.
“I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead. I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League,” said Gilmour [NCFC].
“I spoke to the head coach [Daniel Farke] here. He called me and we had a nice talk about how he wants to play and how he sees me fitting in.
“Everything he said was what I want to do on the pitch, get the ball down and play nice football. He spoke really highly of his team and I wanted to come join here and help.
“There are very exciting times ahead, coming in for pre-season and seeing all the lads. Let’s get to it.”
Whilst Gilmour was linked to Rangers, Gers fans retain an affinity to the midfielder with Billy having come through the Ibrox club’s Academy.
With Champions League football on the horizon, a move for Gilmour would’ve enabled the young Scottish international the chance to play regularly at the highest level.

But once again Rangers’ status in the Scottish Premiership has hurt the club’s chances here as Chelsea seek out a move with a Premier League club.
However, as one door closes another perhaps open as a Euro midfield talent sounds out a come-and-get-me-plea with Rangers linked.
