Rangers fans aren’t the only ones waiting on their club to ramp up summer transfer business.

Almost every single set of supporters across the country is eager to see their teams conclude transfers but some outfits are in more drastic need than others.

Perhaps you can include Rangers in that count, but one side who desperately need reinforcements ahead of the new season is Sheffield United.

The relegated Premier League side are in the midst of a summer of substantial upheaval with an outstanding US-led takeover bid still up in the air.

But should yet more American money flood into the English game, then the Blades could be about to steal in on one high profile Rangers transfer target this summer.

Rangers face McLean battle

The situation around Kenny McLean has polarised Rangers fans.

The boyhood bluenose midfielder, 32, has been with Norwich City for six years and was named the Championship side’s Player of the Year last season.

Contracted to the Carrow Road club until 2026, a Rangers move for McLean has yo-yo’d as much as Norwich’s Premier League status in recent seasons.

But after McLean’s agent laughed off suggestions a Rangers move was dead, fans are awaiting an update on the player’s situation.

Now, Sheffield United have reportedly entered the mix with journalist Alan Nixon claiming via Patreon that the club’s new ownership wants the Scotland international at Bramall Lane.

The suggestion is that should the US-led consortium take over in Sheffield, Chris Wilder will target a move for McLean and Swansea City’s Matt Grimes.

Ibrox midfield transfer hunt changes direction?

The situation with Kenny McLean will remain live until such a time as the midfielder’s future is decided this summer.

Norwich City have appointed Johannes Hoff Thorup ahead of the new season and the Danish manager may well want to put his own stamp on the club’s squad.

As a result, long-serving McLean might well have a window of opportunity elsewhere and Rangers are, for all intents and purposes, well in the hunt for his signature.

Philippe Clement has spoken openly about the need for quality and experience and McLean has both in abundance.

But with Rangers turning their attentions to the likes of Joan Jordan this week, what does it say about the links to Lord Mayor of Norwich?
