The Scottish Sun reports that Rangers have won the battle to sign Joe Aribo.
It’s claimed that this was no ordinary transfer race, either.

When there’s a cheap deal available for a talented player, you have to expect some competition. Yet, this chase for Aribo was on another level.

It’s said that 17 teams were interested in snapping up the out of contract Charlton star.
Those believed to have missed out were Celtic and three Premier League clubs – Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Brighton – with ten unnamed Championship clubs also in the running. The 22-year-old attracted interest from abroad, too. Ligue 1 side Rennes, Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart and Serie A’s Torino are all also set to be disappointed.
It’s claimed the player will command a £300k cross-border development fee.

Verdict

It seems unlikely that 17 clubs were all legitimately in the running for Aribo. Yet, the fact he was linked to so many big sides shows what a talent the Gers look set to land.
It’s a major coup that even in the face of Premier League interest, Rangers are still set to come up trumps.
Let’s hope this one gets over the line as soon as possible and that next season, the young Englishman will bring a different dimension to the Gers midfield.
Meanwhile, Stevie G appears to have signalled the end at Ibrox for several big name first-teamers.
