No sooner had Rangers announced Danilo as signing number eight than number nine, Jose Cifuentes, was expected to follow.

The Ecuador international, alongside the Brazilian, is a real upgrade on previous players in the squad and is an exciting prospect.

The deal seemed imminent weeks ago with confusion about the holdups, however, the Four Lads Had a Dream blog has provided a teaser of an update with Rangers close to revealing Jose Cifuentes.

Rangers set to close Jose Cifuentes deal

Posting on Twitter, the Rangers fan media outlet said of the move for Jose Cifuentes:

“Jose Cifuentes will arrive in Glasgow this midweek, as per multiple previous reports, everything is agreed and in place to join immediately.

It’s been a long protracted deal but management are excited about this.

(Usual last min disaster disclaimer applies).

Signing no 9.”

Michael Beale will be getting a player who is as close to match fit as a new signing can get in the 24-year old.

Having played half a season with Los Angeles FC, he will be up to speed in terms of match fitness and fresh from any niggles and knocks after a short mid-season break.

Rangers are well stocked for midfielders but Michael Beale has struggled to find the right blend, Jose Cifuentes arriving could stir things up in the squad.

Kieran Dowell has looked good, as has Nicolas Raskin, but there are still question marks about how the manager is actually trying to set the midfield up in and out of possession.

One thing is certain, Rangers will get more energy and more purpose from Jose Cifuentes which is badly needed in a team that has struggled in pre-season.
