The Daily Record reports that Rangers could be involved in a player swap deal this month as their interest in Aberdeen star Scott Wright hots up.

Sky Sports reported on Monday afternoon that the Gers were interested in Wright, stating that although a pre-contract deal was an option, they wanted to do a deal in the current window.

Now, the Daily Record claims that Aberdeen are also willing to do business right away.

It’s suggested that the Dons would demand a fee or a player in exchange for Wright, should he head to Ibrox this month.

Aberdeen are already resigned to losing the 23-year-old in the summer after Derek McInnes confirmed last week that attempts to get him to sign an extension were unsuccessful [Evening Express], so it’s no great surprise that they are looking to avoid losing him for nothing.

Given the rivalry that exists between the clubs, transfers are relatively rare. However, Ryan Jack joined the Gers from Aberdeen in 2017 and Ross McCrorie is currently on loan at Pittodrie.

Player swaps are rarer still, with Rangers not involved in any such deal since Steven Gerrard’s arrival at the club.

Should the Gers be happy to go down that route, though, an obvious candidate to go the other way is Greg Stewart.

The 30-year-old also has just six months left on his contract, while he has only made four appearances in all competitions this season and has had two stints with the Dons in the past.

As both Stewart and Wright are attacking options, a swap would also ensure that balance is maintained in both squads.

Wright isn’t the only attacker the Gers are said to be interested in, though, and a 23-year-old striker has set out what it will take to convince him to leave his current club.
