Rangers continue to be mentioned alongside Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour and after Norwich City sacked their manager it may well impact the club’s hopes to sign the player.
Norwich City boss Daniel Farke has been relieved of his duties at Carrow Road with the Canaries vacancy amongst the only Premier League jobs not yet linked to Steven Gerrard.
But whilst fans will breathe a sigh of relief they’re not about to be subjected to two weeks of Gerrard to Norwich content – as they are about to be with Aston Villa – the situation will have implications when it comes to Billy Gilmour one way or another.
The German manager has kept the 20-year-old Scotland international out of the side since mid-September with calls for Chelsea to recall the midfielder.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has previously said that a decision on the player’s future will be taken in January with Gilmour being challenged to fight his way back into contention at the club.
Naturally, Rangers come into contention and have been mentioned if the player is sent back to Stamford Bridge.
But now Farke is gone things could go one of two ways for the midfielder as attention turns to who Norwich will appoint to replace the German manager.
Could Rangers hopes of landing Chelsea wonderkid be boosted by Norwich City sacking?
The obvious suggestion is that with a new manager will come new opportunities for everyone at Norwich and there’s no doubt that’s true.
If the side can get someone in quickly it can often rejuvenate a squad with players being brought in from the cold and Gilmour is certainly someone who falls into this category.
This – naturally – could lead Chelsea to reconsider recalling the midfielder in January.
But the presence of Farke – a former colleague of Chelsea boss Tuchel at Dortmund in Germany – at Norwich was said to be a leading factor in the decision to send Gilmour to the club.
The German’s philosophy was also said to match up with Tuchel’s and this was supposed to make Gilmour’s transition to life at Carrow Road seamless.
However, his exit could herald a change in footballing philosophy and this may well – far from emboldening Gilmour’s cause at Norwich – further force Chelsea into a rethink.

Whatever the case, Tuchel’s words probably ring truer now than they ever did before.
Chelsea won’t be making a decision surrounding Gilmour until January at the earliest and as a result, Rangers fans will need to continue watching this space.
Even if the Ibrox club are being touted as a potential destination by everyone from Rangers fans to former Celtic and Scotland internationals.
