Ex-Scotland star urges £13.5m rated Premier League star to join Rangers

Former Scotland international and Celtic attacker Kris Commons has urged Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour to cut his Norwich loan short and join Rangers.

The former Parkhead star has carved out a bit of a media career in making bold statements and in his latest claim, he believes that it was a mistake sending the midfielder to Carrow Road.

Rangers were extensively linked with a loan move for the player in the summer but Chelsea opted to send Gilmour to the Canaries amid the promise of Premier League football.

But after a run of disappointing results Gilmour, 20, finds himself out of the Norwich City side with manager Daniel Farke biting back at pressure to include him from the press.

“I am not here to please Manchester United or Chelsea, or Tottenham last season,” said Farke. “I am just here to win points for Norwich City.”

It’s opened up a debate over what happens next for the talented Scotland international and according to Commons – who won 12 caps and scored two goals for the country – Ibrox should be considered as a serious option.

“As we approach the time of Hallowe’en and horror movies, it looks like Billy Gilmour’s loan spell at Norwich City is turning into a bit of a nightmare,” writes Commons in a column for the Daily Mail.

“If Gilmour is still twiddling his thumbs in January, Rangers should get on the phone to Chelsea and at least ask the question.

“Some people might think it would be a backward step to return to his old club. But Rangers are a different animal now compared to when Gilmour left in 2017.

“I’m a big fan of Steven Davis and he’s been brilliant for Rangers. But I would have Gilmour ahead of him all day. That’s how good the boy is.

“He could transform the Ibrox midfield and offer a whole new dynamic as the deep-lying playmaker.

“Steven Gerrard was one of the best midfielders of his generation. Gilmour would benefit massively from learning from someone like that in training.

“Whatever happens, he needs to start playing football. If that’s not going to be at Norwich, then Chelsea need to step in and do the right thing.”

So far Billy Gilmour – who is rated at £13.5m by Transfermarkt – has made six appearances for Norwich City this season but hasn’t been since the 3-0 League Cup defeat to Liverpool on the 21st of September.

Meanwhile, Rangers have been handed an apparent injury boost as a key first-teamer takes a key step in his recovery from surgery.
