Still only 18, Rangers held off stiff competition from south of the border to sign the youngster on professional terms and since then King has begun to grow into a first-team role.

Fabrizio Romano broke the news regarding the Leon King interest as he pitted once major rivals Man Utd and Leeds Utd against each other in the hunt for the player.

Romano also made mention of the current length of Leon King’s Rangers deal, with the youngster only contracted to Ibrox until next summer (2024) as things stand.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst praises Rangers talent Leon King

Speaking as a buzz begins to develop around the Rangers and Scotland teenager, van Bronckhorst paid tribute to Leon King and claimed the player will be involved as Liverpool travel to Ibrox.

The youngster played the entire match at Anfield as Rangers fell to a 2-0 Champions League defeat on Merseyside last week.

“You will see him (Leon King) tomorrow, I’ve not heard of any interest from down south,” said van Bronckhorst [Rangers].

“When you are performing well in Scotland you will get interest. Leon is a player who is developing really well.

“He played some games last year but we wanted to make space for him to get more minutes and when he is taking the minutes he is performing really well.

“He still has a lot to learn but he is open to coaching and putting the energy into work hard and better himself.

“I think his future is very bright but he needs to continue playing well and training well and we are helping him in that process. He is developing really well.”

Meanwhile, Rangers have been handed a major player boost as another promising star nears a return to the first team.
