Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed that the club is closing in on another signing as the Gers step up their transfer hunt ahead of next season.

The Ibrox gaffer also talked up the desire for “quality over quantity” as the Gers look to build on their title success with a squad capable of reaching the Champions League group stages.

The comments will certainly be of real excitement to Gers fans who’ve been waiting patiently for some more signing news this season.

So far the club has added Nmandi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala on pre-contract deals with Jack Simpson officially joining from Bournemouth following a loan spell from January.

Rangers are notoriously tight-lipped regarding any transfer dealings with newspapers scrambling to keep up with the club’s business.

But Gerrard did decide to give fans a small taste of what’s to come as he broke from tradition to reveal that the club’s latest addition could be announced within a week.

“The recruitment lads, Ross (Wilson) and myself have worked ever so hard to identify the targets we want,” Gerrard told RangersTV.

“The board and Ross know the players I want to strengthen us and make us better and give us the best chance to be successful next season.

“Hopefully we can go and deliver them. We’re really close on one piece and hopefully in the coming days we’ll have an announcement for the fans.

“I like to get them excited this time of year , they’ve been patient. There won’t be wholesale signings because the squad is strong and good.

“We’ve brought some good additions in six months ago so we’re looking for quality rather than quantity at this stage.”

On top of that, manager Steven Gerrard also had some interesting things to say about one Ibrox star whose been linked with the Ibrox exit door this summer.
