Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has given an update on Alfredo Morelos amid reports regarding a potential transfer to Portuguese giants FC Porto.

Colombian forward Alfie, 25, is currently at the Copa America with his country and he has been extensively linked with a move to Estádio do Dragão.

The latest reports coming out of Portugal have been suggesting that the move is edging “closer” with a potential fee rising to around £15m being mooted in the press [A Bola].

However, Steven Gerrard certainly didn’t appear to be fazed by these claims as he admits he expects to see Morelos back in pre-season training ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.

“We all know how proud Alfredo is to represent Colombia,” Gerrard told RangersTV.

“He’s on the other side of the world but we’ve still got eyes on him and we’re still in contact with him.

“When he finishes at the tournament he’ll have a short break and then he’ll come back to join us for the rest of pre-season and we’ll try and get him ready for game one as well.

“It’s important that he does the right things when he stops until he comes back because he’ll have a very short pre-season and we need Alfredo to be fit and firing for the games coming our way.”

That certainly doesn’t sound like Alfredo is immediately exit-bound despite all the reports coming out of Portugal.

Rangers have been here before with the striker and perhaps it’s important we take the last reports regarding Alfredo’s future with a pinch of salt.
