Fashion Sakala has detailed the Steven Gerrard comment that gave him chills and convinced him to sign for Rangers.

After months of speculation, the Gers announced the capture of Sakala on a pre-contract deal in May.

Gerrard has already stated his excitement at the pace and dynamism he will bring to the team and the player himself has asserted that he turned down Premier League and Ligue 1 sides in favour of moving to Ibrox.

In an interview on the DJ Showstar TV YouTube channel last week, a clip from which was shared by Rangers fan Gremio Bear on Twitter on Monday night, the former KV Oostende forward was asked about specific things Gerrard said to him during negotiations.

“The first time we had a meeting, he said: ‘very few players have your qualities. I have seen a lot of players who have made it in European football who don’t have your qualities. So, with your qualities, I believe you can make it to the top.”

“At that time, I felt cold but I didn’t tell him,” continued Sakala with a laugh. “I felt cold (got chills). It’s coming from Gerrard!

“Then I was like, ok, no matter what situations will come [I will sign for Rangers]. For sure, these big teams they put a lot of money. But, I’m not looking for money. The money I’ll be getting from Rangers? My life is secure.”

These words will be music to the ears of Rangers fans, many of whom already have a soft spot for Sakala after his comments about his upbringing during a similarly impressive recent Studio Ken interview.

It’s clear that the 24-year-old is an extremely humble man who is excited by the opportunity that awaits him in Glasgow working under such a high-profile figure in Gerrard.

The Zambia international netted 16 times for KVO in the Belgian top-flight last season and if he can repeat those numbers in the Premiership during 2021/22, he’ll no doubt become a cult hero.

In other news, the fastest player in a European top-flight league has spoken out on his future amid Ibrox speculation.
