Rangers have announced the signing of Danilo from Feyenoord in one of the most exciting signings the club has made for years.
The 24-year old has a fine pedigree having come through the Ajax academy before signing for Feyenoord.
Speaking to Rangers media team, Michael Beale has clearly been a long-term admirer of Danilo and has high hopes for the Brazilian.
Getting the on-form striker in this early has been something of a surprise given Feyenoord’s striker situation but it is an opportunity that the Gers gaffer will be only too happy to grab with both hands.
Rangers boss Beale has had eye on Danilo for years
Rangers fly to Hoffenheim for the final friendly of pre-season on Saturday and £6m man Danilo will be part of the squad, a huge boost for Michael Beale.
It is a recurring theme this summer that the boss has had his eye on players for some time:
“Danilo is a player that I have personally been aware of since his time at Ajax.
“He had a breakthrough year on loan at FC Twente and then back at Ajax before joining Feyenoord last summer.
“He has won the Dutch title in both of the last two seasons and his goal per minute ratio is very good.
“He is an exciting player who likes to create and score goals, he is one that I believe is a good fit for our squad and he will give us another big option in the attacking areas of the pitch.”
Fitness shouldn’t be an issue for Danilo given that he has already been playing games and scoring in them too.
His pre-season started around the same time as the Rangers one and for all that Danilo might not have been run into the ground as much as some of Michael Beale’s players, he should still be good to go.
It’s easy to see why the manager was looking forward to this transfer window now – few Rangers managers have been given £5m to spend on strikers, never mind twice in one window.
