The club did plenty of business in January, mainly with a view to improving the squad for the 2021/22 season.

Nnamdi Ofoborh, Scott Wright and Jack Simpson were all snapped up on pre-contract deals, with agreements eventually reached to bring the latter two players in straight away.

Gerrard is happy with their progress and says “they’ll be ready to go with a strong pre-season behind them”, while he also believes pacy attacker Fashion Sakala has the potential to make a big impact next season.

A pre-contract agreement with the Zambia international was confirmed last week following months of speculation.

The Gers already look to be in good shape, then, assuming that the vast majority of the current squad stays put. Yet, encouragingly for Bears, the recruitment drive appears to be far from over.

“There are other areas of the team and squad where we’re actively working towards strengthening and come the Champions League qualifiers, whether it’s the third round or the fourth, we’ll have a team and a squad ready to go and give it our best shot,” said the manager [RangersTV].

It would be easy for the coaching staff and the recruitment team to rest on their laurels given how comfortably the Premiership title was won this season.

However, it’s clear that there’s still ambition to strengthen the playing group, with Champions League football a big focus going forward.

Central midfield is one area in need of reinforcement, given that it’s as yet unknown when Ryan Jack will be fit again following surgery, while Bongani Zungu is returning to parent club Amiens.

In other news, Rangers fans have reacted angrily after the TV details for Wednesday evening’s Premiership clash against Livingston were confirmed.
