Rangers boss Gerrard provides Alfredo Morelos update following reported Al-Duhail interest

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has provided an update on Alfredo Morelos following reported interest from Al-Duhail, as quoted by the Scotsman.

The wealthy Qatari club were first linked with interest by the Daily Mail in June and the link resurfaced in a Daily Record report in early October.

However, the transfer window in Qatar closed on Sunday.

With the extended Portuguese window also closing in recent days, Gerrard now knows he will have Morelos available for at least another two full months.

“I’m a little, tiny bit more certain about Alfredo in the short term,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Scotsman. “But are we out of the woods on that one? In Alfredo’s case, I have always been in the woods since day one here.”

“And I think I will remain in the woods while Alfredo’s here. I just manage Alfredo from day to day, week to week. He’s available now until January. I can’t predict the future beyond that.

“We are happy to have him here. We need him back at his top level in terms of his form and scoring goals in the short term. That’s my only priority right now.”

Rangers boss gives Alfredo Morelos update following Al-Duhail links – Verdict

There was transfer speculation around El Bufalo for months but, once again, none of the reportedly interested clubs were prepared to meet Rangers’ asking price.

Gerrard has made it clear here, though, that he’s not counting on having the Colombia international available for the whole season.

There’s every chance that a big club could come knocking in January, looking to turn their own season around by splashing big money on bringing in a new striker.

Yet, Morelos is currently on a six-game mini-drought and he’ll be conscious of the need to get back amongst the goals if he wants to secure an exit following the turn of the year.
