Israeli Premier League outfit Hapoel be’er Sheva have been linked with a move for Rangers winger Josh McPake amid reports of attitude issues.
Football Scotland claim the Israeli outfit are interested in a loan-to-buy deal for the attacker who will return to Rangers this summer after a disappointing stint with Tranmere Rovers.
Now 20, Josh McPake does have two years to run on his current deal and it’s not clear from the report how open Rangers would be to sending the player out on another loan deal.
Once amongst the brightest talents at Ibrox, Josh has fallen down the pecking order at the club ever since being handed his debut as a teenager under Steven Gerrard.
McPake came off the bench in a Europa League qualifier against St Joseph’s in 2019 and even signed a new deal only last year, tying him to the club until 2024.
But failed loan stints with Greenock Morton, Dundee, Morecambe and Tranmere have blighted the kid’s development and links to Hapoel be’er Sheva come amid much speculation surrounding Josh’s future.
Rangers attacker Josh McPake linked to Hapoel be’er Sheva
Reports earlier in the year suggested Rangers were ready to rip up Josh McPake’s contract in order to find him a permanent home amid allegations of attitude problems out on loan.
It’s something of a fall from grace and McPake has also been linked to the likes of English League Two Hartlepool United and manager Paul Hartley in recent weeks.
It’s a division Josh knows well having played 37 games in it to date with Josh McPake playing 62 senior games in total in the men’s game.
To date, the only really successful part-time move of McPake’s career was a six-month stint at Harrogate Town in English League Two which culminated in winning the EFL Trophy.
The Football Scotland report also claims that Josh McPake is working to remedy alleged attitude problems and is undergoing double sessions ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, a pre-season Rangers friendly on Euro soil is set to be screened live on Premier Sport.
