Rabbi Matondo is now in the final four months of his contract at Rangers.

Having joined the Gers in 2022 from FC Schalke, the Wales international has played 70 first-team games.

However, Matondo has struggled with his fitness and form, having scored just eight goals and provided 11 assists in his four years at the club.

Rabbi Matondo likely to leave Rangers at the end of June

According to the Daily Record, Matondo is now likely to leave the Ibrox outfit at the end of June.

With his contract running out, there does not appear to be a new deal in sight.

Danny Rohl is not understood to be a fan either, which explains his fleeting appearances under the German.

This season, Matondo has played in just three games in all competitions, with two of them being in the earlier rounds of the Scottish Cup.

The 25-year-old played 35 and 29 minutes against Annan Athletic and Queen’s Park, respectively, in what were comfortable wins for the Bears.

His only league appearance came against Aberdeen in January, when he came off the bench for just one minute.

It is clear that he is out of favour and none of the key decision makers want to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.

Will Danny Rohl give Matondo another chance?

Danny Rohl will be keen to win the title this season, and there is every chance he can guide Rangers over the line.

With no possibility of signing new players until the end of the season, the German may fancy giving Matondo a chance, provided he impresses in training.

Having the Welshman would give Rangers someone with the direct running ability who could be a threat to opponents on the counterattack.

Matondo could also be useful against tired legs, and he would give Rohl’s side a different dimension in attack.

This bit-part role would also benefit the winger as he could look to impress potential suitors who’d then be willing to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

While it is not likely, as things stand, that Matondo gets a regular run of games, an injury crisis could change things.
