Rabbi Matondo seems to have started last ever Rangers game after Chris Jack update

Rabbi Matondo does not look to be starting a game for Rangers anytime in the near future.

Since his move back in 2022, the Welshman has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Light Blues side.

This season, Matondo has barely featured for the first team, making just three appearances in all competitions and playing just 65 minutes.

Rabbi Matondo far away from what Danny Rohl needs at Rangers

Ahead of the Celtic clash, Chris Jack discussed what Danny Rohl might look to change after the 2-2 draw over the weekend.

He was posed with the question of potentially using Matondo as a wild card, given his fleeting first-team appearances.

However, the reliable Rangers Review journalist claimed that the Welsh winger is far away from being what Rohl wants at the club and does not expect him to feature in the Old Firm derby.

The 25-year-old’s last appearance for the Gers was against Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup back in February.

Matondo has not started a league game all season as he has fallen way down in Rohl’s pecking order.

Speaking about him on Thursday, Jack said: “Unless there’s an injury crisis in one of the Bear outfits before the match, I don’t think we’ll see Rabbi getting a kick.

“For me, he is miles and miles outside of what Rangers need right now.”

Matondo may never start another game at Ibrox

Matondo’s contract at Ibrox runs out at the end of the season, and there seems to be no indication, as things stand, about him signing an extension.

The fact that he has been restricted to one league appearance all season suggests that he is being frozen out at Rangers.

Him not leaving in January was undoubtedly a surprise, as the club had a chance to cash in on him before his deal expires.

However, it seems plausible that in the coming weeks, the Gers make an announcement that he will be parting ways with the club.

He already could be in discussions with other clubs, with his deal running out soon, and the current situation proves that he is not expected to start another game for the club ever again.
