Rangers and Celtic are currently being pipped by Preston North End in the hunt for £3m-rated Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei.
That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, who claims the Lilywhites are leading the charge for the in-demand 21-year-old Ghanaian defender.
Writing on his official Patreon account, Nixon claims that English Championship Preston are currently the frontrunners to sign Nathaniel Adjei from the Allsvenskan underdogs.
The report claims that Preston want to strike an initial January loan deal for the centre-back with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.
However, Nixon claims Preston are reluctant to pay the £3m that Hammarby want for Nathaniel Adjei in a stipulation which may well interest both Rangers and Celtic.
The Old Firm duo were named as Nathaniel Adjei suitors earlier in the week when a report in Sky Sports detailed the apparent interest.
Also mentioning interest from Belgium and France, it’s clear Adjei is a wanted man despite being spotted turning out for Hammarby over the weekend amid the links.
Preston lead hunt for Rangers-linked Nathaniel Adjei
Rangers’ issues at centre-back have been well documented with the club’s injury-prone duo of John Souttar and Ben Davies currently sidelined at a crucial moment of the season.
Alternative pair Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun have also been prone to a problem as of late and Rangers boss Philippe Clement has lamented a lack of physical robustness in his side.
The towering Nathaniel Adjei appears to fit the the profile of the new Rangers boss and it’s certainly a link that has got Ibrox fans talking.

Now it appears English Championship Preston are the player’s main suitors and the situation is certainly an interesting one heading into the January window.
It’s far too soon for Philippe Clement and his team to be discussing January targets with the Rangers boss still in an observation stage after taking over as manager.
But perhaps a player in the mould of Nathaniel Adjei will be of interest to Rangers as the club looks to strengthen their title tilt.
