Ghanaian centre-back Nathaniel Adjei is spotted in the green of Hammarby in their draw with Varnamo amid links to Rangers and Celtic.

According to Sky Sports, both sides of the Old Firm are considering a deal for the defender, who has impressed with the Swedish Allsvenskan side this season.

Only 21-years-old, Rangers are said to have sent scouts to watch the player and one wonders if Nathaniel Adjei was in the club’s sights over the weekend.

In what was Hammarby’s first match since losing QPR-bound coach Marti Cifuentes, Adjei played the entire game in a rather drab 0-0 draw away to Varnamo.

Sporting Hammarby’s green kit, Rangers fans will wondering if Nathaniel Adjei will ditch the colour for the blue of Glasgow ahead of next season.

Rangers watching Nathaniel Adjei

Rangers boss Philippe Clement will be looking to put his own stamp on the team and has been clear that a distinct lack of robustness and physicality is costing the Ibrox side.

At 6ft2 and still growing, Ghanaian youth international Nathaniel Adjei is a powerful, athletic defender who also appears to suit Rangers’ requirements for a modern, technical centre-back.

With the likes of John Souttar and Ben Davies out with injury – and not for the first time – Rangers need more robust and physical options in defence and Nathaniel Adjei is a target which will stand out to supporters.

Not least because the source – Sky Sports – are never usually ones to send out transfer smoke without there at least being a fire underneath.

We’re sure that Nathaniel Adjei will be one of a number of options being considered by Rangers with Philippe Clement still in the “observation” stage of his tenure.

Rangers’ lack of consistency from their defensive options – either in terms of form or availability – is a constant source of frustration amongst supporters.

Nathaniel Adjei has made 25 appearances for Hammarby this season, scoring one goal and helping the club to a noble 6th place position in the Swedish top flight table.
