River Plate hope the promise of trophies will convince Rangers-linked Rafael Santos Borre to remain at the club as a new report confirms the player is yet to agree upon a new deal.

The 25-year-old forward is currently at the Copa America with Colombia but his current deal with the Argentine giants is set to expire in a couple of days.

The entire thing is made even more complicated by the fact that should Borre sign a new deal at River Plate before the expiration of his current one, then former club Atletico Madrid will be due a reported £3m in compensation.

River boss Marcelo Gallardo has made no bones about wanting the player to stay with one journalist even suggesting the Argentine coach had got his wish.

But now yet another report suggests that is not the case as Ole report that cash-strapped River are genuinely worried about losing the forward.

That report claims that River hope to seduce the forward – who has netted 56 goals in 149 River games – with the promise of success.

Not only this, but they believe that given the nature of Borre’s situation they are willing to include a sizeable sell on fee.

Whatever the case, the player’s future certainly doesn’t seem settled and it is only a matter of days before his current deal expires in Argentina.

An earlier report in La Nacion confirmed that River are “concerned” about losing the player and also talked up the potential legal ramifications of letting Borre’s contract expire before signing him on a free.

Rangers were first linked to the player by Football Insider but since then El Deportivo have claimed the Gers are considering a proposal which beats River’s financially.

Whilst these reports concern one Colombian coming into the club, a foreign report has played down the suggestion another Los Cafeteros star could leave Ibrox.
