It hasn’t quite gone to plan for Rabbi Matondo at Rangers ever since a money-spinning move from Schalke 04 in Germany.
Signed under the management of Giovanni van Bronckhorst in 2022, there were high hopes the ex-Manchester City youth could bring much-needed quality to Ibrox in the wide areas.
But injury and a lack of consistency has hurt Rabbi Matondo at Rangers and now Rangers News has learned the winger is closing in on a move out of Ibrox.
It comes after the 24-year-old speedster narrowly missed out on a move to Norwich City in the final moments of the summer transfer window.

Rabbi Matondo Rangers exit talks ‘progressing’
Rangers News exclusively revealed earlier in the week that Serie A clubs Torino and Lecce were interested in a loan-to-buy deal for Rabbi Matondo.
But the latest surrounding the winger suggests clubs in the English Championship are also hoping to strike a deal for the Welsh international.
Amongst the teams interested include Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, with things expected to move quickly over the next couple of days.
There has been plenty of interest in Rabbi Matondo in the English Championship previously, with Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers also strongly linked in the summer.
The news comes after Rangers were urged to sell Rabbi Matondo to free up funds for the January transfer window.
Rangers want seven-figure Rabbi Matondo fee
Rangers forked out around £2.5m to sign Rabbi Matondo in 2022 and things have not gone to plan for the winger since moving to Ibrox.
According to Salary Sport, Rabbi Matondo also earns £23k per week at Rangers and any exit would free up wages to explore alternative options.
Signed off the back of an explosive loan season with Cercle Brugge, it was hoped Rangers could kickstart Matondo’s career after an £11m switch to Schalke from Man City didn’t go to plan.
But Rangers have been unable to access the winger’s clear potential and now an exit beckons with the Gers hoping to recoup a slice of the fee they paid for Matondo’s services.
Rangers would be willing to sanction a loan-to-buy deal for Matondo, which would see the winger move down south for six months with a £2m option-to-buy in the summer.
Rangers missed out on Samuel Edozie after opting against loaning Matondo out back in August, only for the Welshman to get injured In the Old Firm derby against Celtic in September.
Now only just making his return to the first-team, it’s a mistake Philippe Clement will be keen not to make twice.
Matondo has made eight appearances and only three starts for Rangers this season, scoring twice and laying on three assists.
