Prolific reported Rangers target scores again, update provided by sporting director

Prolific reported Rangers target Fashion Sakala scored again at the weekend and KV Oostende sporting director Gauthier Ganaye has provided an update on his status [Daily Record].

The Gers are reportedly keen on a move for Sakala, whose current deal at KVO expires in the summer and the player himself recently appeared to hint at interest in a move to Ibrox on social media.

Rangers aren’t the only club said to be chasing him, though, with Belgian giants Anderlecht as well as English Premier League teams West Ham and Newcastle also reportedly circling [Daily Record].

It’s easy to see why so many big clubs are interested, too, given his prolific current form.

The Zambia international scored from the spot in a 3-1 home win for KVO over Sint-Truiden on Saturday and now has eight goals in his last eight Pro League appearances.

The glut means he’s moved to 13 for the season, making him the third top scorer in the division.

Last month, Sakala suggested he would be open to extending his stay with Oostende [Glasgow Live], but their sporting director says the striker’s agent is ignoring contract offers from the club.

“We have made three to four offers since last summer,” said Ganaye [Daily Record]. “Fortunately, Fashion is in Oostende and I am convinced that he can take further steps under [manager] Alexander Blessin.”

“However, I feel that his agent is not really respecting KV Oostende as he is no longer responding to our offers. A career is an accumulation of decisions and I hope that Fashion has the right people around him to make the right decisions because he deserves that.

“On the transfer deadline day we received a few more offers for him, but in the end, there was no transfer. It is still our intention to keep him here longer.”

Oostende only just avoided relegation last season but they are thriving this time around with Sakala’s goals firing them to fifth in the table.

However, based on this latest update, his future is likely to lie away from the Diaz Arena.

With the Gers set to strongly consider cashing in on Alfredo Morelos in the summer and Jermain Defoe’s deal running down, Steven Gerrard will likely need reinforcements at the top end of the pitch and 23-year-old Sakala looks as though he would be a quality addition on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Gerrard has confirmed he wants a player he recently dropped to remain at Ibrox next season amid uncertainty regarding his future.
