Premier League signing reports rubbished, Rangers star an “alternative”

Reports that Nottingham Forest are closing in on Venezia midfielder Domen Crnigoj have been rubbished after the midfielder was cited as an “alternative” to Rangers’ Joe Aribo.

Steve Cooper’s side are amongst three Premier League outfits who were originally mentioned as potential suitors for Rangers’ Nigerian international, with fellow newboys Fulham and the exciting Patrick Viera project at Crystal Palace also linked.

But any notion that Nottingham Forest have dropped out of the race due to interest in Slovenian international midfielder Crnigoj have been rubbished by the latest reports.

The Daily Record had claimed that the Venezia star was an “alternative” to Joe Aribo but admittedly did claim any move for the player may not impact interest in the ex-Charlton man.

Guardian journalist Will Unwin has rubbished reports coming out of Italy which claimed Domen Crnigoj was closing in on a move to the City Ground.

It remains to be seen if this will have implications regarding any pursuit of Joe Aribo, but It does appear Forest are in the hunt for a new midfielder.

Journalist George Cannon even had the newly promoted Premier League outfit as the team leading the pack in the hunt for the Nigerian international.

Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa were also linked by that report with the latest suggesting up to a fifth of the Premier League are tailing the Rangers midfielder.

No one in world football played in more matches than Joe Aribo last season (70) and there are fears the player looks increasingly likely to leave Ibrox this summer.

Now in the final year of his deal at Rangers, Aribo will need to be signed up or shipped out as part of the club’s player trading model and with Forest reportedly not interested in Domen Crnigoj it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.

With Heart & Hand reporting on their Daily Update for 27/06/22 that the player is believed to have a £10m release clause in his current deal, that could prove a snip for any of the vying Premier League sides interested in our number 17.

Meanwhile, here’s the latest on Dutch striker Thijs Dallinga as a £2.2m bid in reportedly launched for the striker.
