Rangers could be set to miss out on Dutch striker Thijs Dallinga as French outfit Toulouse return with a second bid for the 36-goal striker.

According to Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur, the newly-promoted Ligue 1 side initially had a £1.7m (€2m) bid for the 21-year-old Excelsior forward turned down.

They are now claiming that the French outfit have returned with a “serious” £2.2m (€2.5m) bid for the prolific striker with personal terms not believed to be an issue.

The report also namedrops Rangers as an interested party but claims that the most concrete interest in Thijs Dallinga is coming from Toulouse.

These reports have since been carried by the likes of L’Equipe in France.

This comes after Rangers were linked with a move over the weekend, with reports in France claiming Ligue 1 Lorient and Serie B Genoa are also interested parties.

Rangers linked Thijs Dallinga subject to Toulouse interest

Those reports had suggested that Thijs Dallinga could be valued as highly as £4.3m by current club Excelsior as they prepare to compete in the Eredivisie next season.

Thijs Dallinga played a key role in earning the club promotion to the top division in the Netherlands, firing in an impressive 36 goals for the club in the last campaign.

A powerful 6ft2 forward who clearly has an eye goal, on paper the striker appears to tick a lot of boxes for how Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to play.

The player’s nationality is also relevant with Rangers’ Dutch coaching set-up well placed to help the kid develop, not least through the influence of ex-Netherlands forward Roy Makaay.

All of this has contributed to supporters being somewhat excited about the links but it appears Toulouse are the proactive party when it comes to Thijs Dallinga and Rangers could be set to miss out.

Meanwhile, it’s a case of what might’ve been as a former Ibrox youth reportedly snubs Man United as he moves to the Premier League.
