The definition of irony was seen by Rangers fans at the weekend with Alex Lowry proving that he can be a Premiership game changer.

Unfortunately, the 20-year old was playing for Hearts and his 30 minute cameo could see him play significantly longer in the Jambos next fixture.

Rangers have a hugely talented player on their hands in Alex Lowry and a loan move across to the capital is the perfect place for him to showcase his talents.

Rangers get glimpse of what Alex Lowry can do as he shines for Hearts

Despite only training with his new teammates once, the Scotland youth cap was immediately on set-piece duties and given the task of breaking St Johnstone down.

He may not have played the final pass on each occasion but he was involved in both goals earned the praises of his new manager.

Getting regular gametime is a key target for the young Rangers playmaker but Alex Lowry should be looking for more.

If he is given the chance, there is no reason why a national young player of the year trophy can’t be a target.

Michael Beale could have done with his services against Kilmarnock.

Rangers lacked creativity and nobody was willing to take players on or play aggressive passes, Alex Lowry is fearless in this regard.

There is no better place than Tynecastle for Lowry to learn his trade.

There is an expectation to win, a fervent home support and pressure to be a creative influence.

It is the sort of environment where a young player will soon find out if they have what it takes.

If it goes well, a regular agreement with Hearts for players like Leon King, Johnly Yfeko and Adam Devine could be beneficial for both parties.

Rangers fans will be proud of Alex Lowry making the sort of impact that we all know he is capable of.

It’s just a shame that it wasn’t in a blue shirt.
