Alex Lowry has never been a player in the Rangers academy that the coaching staff ever had to consider whether or not he had the talent to make it at the top.
Under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the Scotland youth cap broke through to the first-team and immediately looked the part.
Last season saw Alex Lowry suffer from injury and personal trauma though and it should be put behind him as the mercurial Rangers playmaker sets out on a new path on loan at Hearts, as revealed on X by the club’s official page.
Alex Lowry leaves Rangers in perfect move to Hearts
Speaking to Hearts TV after his unveiling, Alex Lowry was clearly excited at the opportunity to play regular senior football despite leaving Rangers:
“I’m buzzing and delighted to get this done.
“I want to get going and play in front of the fans at Tynecastle and repay Steven (Naismith) and Frankie’s (McAvoy) faith in bringing me here.
“This was definitely the right place to come, the style of play really suits me.“
Alex Lowry is right, the Rangers youngster is perfect for Hearts and he gave their fans an indication of what they can expect:
“I’m very creative, my first thought is always forward. I like to play passes that not many people see.
“I’ll work hard for the team, and do my bit off the ball, so I can hopefully create chances in better positions.
“There just seems to be a buzz around the place. Like I said, I just want to be out playing in front of the Hearts fans as quick as possible. Hopefully it’s tomorrow against St. Johnstone but we’ll wait and see.”

The only questions raised previously about Alex Lowry since breaking into the Rangers first-team have been about his mental strengths and attitude.
Does he work hard enough out of possession?
Is he willing to do the graft in the gym and the hard yards on the training pitch?
If a player, especially a young one, had a bad attitude on the training ground, they wouldn’t be wearing the captain’s armband for the B team.
That shows that the coaching staff see Alex Lowry as a leader amongst his peers and a player who can set the example of what is needed to be a success at Rangers.
His interview suggests that he is determined to grab his chance with both hands.

Hearts is the perfect club for Lowry to go to, if they give him the freedom to play, he will create chances.
He has a manager who also made an impact as a young player and coped with the pressure of being a Rangers player.
Hearts fans are also demanding and will want to win every week, few clubs provide that sort of pressure and expectation.
This season isn’t make or break for Alex Lowry, but if he is to have a career at Rangers, impressing at Hearts wouldn’t be a bad way to start.
